As a medical journalist, I often travel across cities to understand how modern medical technologies are shaping patient care. My recent visit to Opera Bone and Joint Clinic in Malleswaram brought me face to face with Dr. Ponnanna K.M, a specialist frequently associated with Robotic knee replacement surgery in Bangalore. Dr. Ponnanna K.M completed his MBBS, followed by MS in Orthopaedics from SDM College of Medical Sciences and Hospital under Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in 2015. In the same year, he also earned his DNB in Orthopaedics, strengthening his academic credentials.
To further specialize in joint reconstruction and sports medicine, he pursued a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction Surgery focusing on shoulder, hip, and knee conditions under Dr. Sachin Tapasvi in Pune. This training provided exposure to advanced arthroscopy techniques and joint replacement procedures.
His professional journey later took him overseas when he was selected for the Australian Orthopaedic Association Fellowship, where he trained in Sydney in shoulder, elbow, and knee sports medicine as well as joint replacement procedures.
He also completed another fellowship in hip and knee sports medicine and joint replacement surgery at Concord Repatriation General Hospital in Sydney under Dr. Peter Walker. These fellowships exposed him to global orthopedic practices, including modern surgical technologies such as robotic-assisted joint replacement.
Dr. Ponnanna K.M’s clinical career reflects a combination of surgical practice and academic involvement. Before establishing his current practice, he worked as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Ramaiah Memorial Hospital and M.S. Ramaiah Medical College.
