As neurological disorders become increasingly recognized and treated with precision-based approaches, Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) has emerged as one of the most transformative technologies in modern neuroscience. To understand how this therapy is shaping the future of Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, essential tremors, and certain psychiatric conditions, I visited and interviewed Dr. Manish Baldia, a highly regarded neurosurgeon known widely as a DBS Specialist in Rajkot.
What stood out during my visit was not just the sophistication of the equipment or the technical depth of the procedures, but the clarity with which Dr. Baldia explained DBS—a clarity that often helps patients and families navigate complex medical decisions.
Dr. Baldia’s academic path reflects the rigorous training required to master neuromodulation surgeries. He completed his MBBS from a reputed medical college, followed by an MS in General Surgery, and later a super-specialization in MCh Neurosurgery from a leading national institute. Over the years, he has worked in high-volume neurosurgical centers, giving him exposure to advanced movement disorder surgeries.
With more than a decade of experience in functional neurosurgery, his practice includes DBS for Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy surgeries, and procedures for drug-resistant tremors. While speaking with him, it was evident that he approaches each case with disciplined clinical reasoning—combining patient history, neurological scoring systems, imaging data, and multidisciplinary discussions.
The clinic is designed for neurological evaluations, gait assessments, and DBS programming sessions. A dedicated stimulation room houses sophisticated devices for postoperative tuning—a critical part of the therapy. In addition to a strong neurology and neurosurgery team, physiotherapists and psychological counselors contribute to long-term rehabilitation.
What impressed me most was the emphasis on continuity of care. Patients undergoing DBS need routine programming checks for several months, sometimes years. Dr. Baldia’s setup ensures this is provided in a structured, patient-friendly format.
While interacting with Dr. Manish Baldia, I also explored how DBS expertise is distributed across India and globally.
Like any advanced medical intervention, DBS has advantages and limitations.
